Robert began his career as an assistant at Belhus Park in 1978, becoming a fully qualified member of the Professional Golfers Association in 1981. During this period Robert’s golf flourished culminating in earning his European Tour playing rights at the 1983 Qualifying School.

Robert’s career on the European Tour included highlights of
playing in the PGA Championship at Wentworth. He would also rub shoulders with the greats of this era, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer. He ended his European Tour career in 1988 to focus on his position as Head Professional at Theydon Bois, Epping.

During his time at Theydon Bois Rob called upon his mentor the legendary Eddie Whitcombe to expand his knowledge of equipment technology, and coaching practices. Continuing his playing career Robert enjoyed success winning the Essex Open in 1990 and tying for first in the East Anglian Open in 1991.

In 1993 Robert moved to West Essex, Chingford, this was where his Coaching career took off. Robert coached many Tour Players notably Bernard Langer, Simon Khan and Mark Davis. His passion not only lay within Performance Coaching but also with Junior Coaching with current European Tour Player Oliver Fisher coming through his Junior Academy, along with many other England Boys and Girls International Golfers.

Robert is currently based at Woodbridge Golf club, one of the premier clubs in Suffolk, he made the move in October 2018. With 27 holes of pure heathland course, it’s a truly breath-taking venue to experience. The indoor teaching golf studio lends itself to learn golf in the best environment possible.

How does custom fitting work?

Firstly we discuss with you your preferences with regards manufacturer selection and what you wish to achieve from selecting a new set of clubs.

Secondly we take your static measurements i.e. whilst standing in an upright position we measure height and distance from the wrist to the floor. This information enables us to determine the ideal length of shaft and lie angle for the golfer, a great starting point.

Next we carry out a dynamic swing test, where we evaluate how your swing affects impact position, ball flight and shape.

Finally, the information that we have gathered from all these tests and the initial consultation allow us to find the best specification of golf clubs for the customer.

We highly recommend the custom fit method if you are considering purchasing a new set of golf clubs.

Golf Club Repairs

We offer a full re-gripping service and carry, at all times, a good selection of various styles of grips and thicknesses.
We have a graphite shaft remover which makes the process much more simple when replacing broken shafts.

All the Professional shop staff have been fully trained by the Professional Golfers’ Association and continue to attend regular courses enabling us to be up to date with the latest technology.

No matter how small the repair, we are only too happy to take it on. We recommend golfers get into the habit of bringing their set of clubs into the workshop during the winter months to have them checked over and altered, if necessary, ready for the up-coming season. All alterations are kept on file for each client for easy reference in the future.
